UNMU hosts regional nurses and midwives leaders

Recently, the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union hosted a meeting for nurses and midwives leaders from southern Africa. The meeting at the Common Wealth Resort,Munyonyo attracted members from 8 countries. It deliberated on the challenges to nurses and task shifting,especially in the wake of an HIV/AIDS epidemic in the region. The leaders resolved to national nurses organisations in respective countries work with members to find strategies to put task shifting to nurses benefit in order to better respond to the pandemic in the sub saharan african region

Interdicted Mityana Nurses Meet Union President


The President of Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union last month paid a fact finding mission to Mityana hospital to ascertain allegations against four midwives charged with manslaughter.
Ms Janet Obuni (2nd Left) and Union lawyer, Kuguminkiriza Moses (R),and the Senior Hospital Administrator, Mr Luziige ( 3rd R) were present.
The midwives were alleged to have caused the death of a mother out of negligence. For details follow this
Ms Obuni said she was so saddened that the media and politicians had incited the public to lynch the Midwives. She said the union would give them moral support and full legal representation in courts of law

She said swearing the hippocratic oath does not mean health workers rights to practicing in a safe environment to their health ( infections from patients and back) is compromised
